The City of Lucas

Lucas is a small rural town located in the southern region of Collin County. The community is close to nature, and it’s just a 30-minute drive to the city life that the DFW area provides.

“Here in Lucas, we have the best of both worlds,” said Lucas City Manager Joni Clarke. “We are a small town that values family life, while having access to the big city.”

Despite the mere 12.6 square miles, there is no doubt that the city population is growing more each year. In 2019, there were nearly 8,000 residents.

What Makes Lucas Unique?

“What makes Lucas truly unique is that we are so close to nature while being close to the big city,” noted Clarke. “There is a great horned owl that nests in my backyard that I can see every day, but I can also drive 10 minutes out of Lucas and do all of the shopping, dining, and entertainment that I could possibly want.”

Something else that makes the city unique is how all commercial zoning is located on the periphery of the city. This means that all restaurants and shops are located on the borders of Lucas, not directly in the neighborhoods.

Residents can also see the residential and agricultural lifestyle all within the city. For example, a new construction family home can be located next to a horse farm.

“There is a nice border between the two,” said Clarke. “The urban and rural coexist in harmony, and it’s a great atmosphere to raise a family.”

For people who are thinking of moving here, Lucas offers large lots, great schools, a close-knit community, and an involved local government.

“Lucas is fortunate to have a very active local government where residents have a voice in the community in which they live and love,” said Clarke.
